    New Terminator

    New Terminator

It was in the fall of 2009  CT Air Krete® Licensed Manufacturer Alan Gagnon called the Air Krete® Inc. headquarters all excited… “While I was puting Air Krete® in my customer’s wall the termites are literally crawling out of the walls carrying their larva right before our eyes… They are flopping upsidedown… It’s incredible….” A non toxic all green insulation acts like a terminator…HOW DID THEY DO THAT? Home Owner’s Mr. & Mrs. Greg Morgan witnessed the extermination of termites without an exterminator on site. The distressed termites nesting in the home’s cavities were carrying their larvae and eggs out of the walls’ cavities, and dying due to the de-oiling effect of Air Krete’s® main ingredient, Magnesium Oxide . Here’s the follow up.

My name is Mark S. Reed, the Owner/President of
The Climate Chief LLC, a BPI certified company

New Time Remodelers and General Contractor, LLC, established in 1986 offering a design and build service and much more.

I would like to share my experience involving an acoustical project for a nightclub in Saratoga Springs, New York, located in the basement of 6 Caroline Street and surrounded by many businesses. This community attracts many tourists and the street and sidewalks are packed with people in search of all types of entertainment. With this being said, you must consider all surrounding businesses and housing tenants.

One of the biggest fears is the unknown when going into a project like this. I am not just an AirKrete® installer that pumps the product and gets it out. There was much more at stake.

There was the man’s dream of operating his own nightclub with live bands in one of the busiest alleyway streets in the community. His first biggest fear was being shut down after his first opening for disturbing the peace. Also as the building owner, he has a responsibility to his present tenants, one of whom runs a dining restaurant just upstairs over the future nightclub and then the additional level of housing apartments above the restaurant. On top of all this, we were dealing with joining row buildings. Now we had to put yourself in the shoes of the building owner who has a great responsibility to all his tenants, neighbors and who, of which would have to lay out a great deal of cash to prep this basement for this nightclub project to go forward.

As with many of you, this was my first time taking on such a large responsibility in using AirKrete® for sound control. The architect would have liked to have seen good sound acoustic reports, but I could not provide these to him. Using all the structural and building knowledge I have, all I would say is we have a great product and I will do my best when installing. Now just think of all the pressure of pointing fingers at who if this doesn’t work out as hoped.

I finally got the OK to move forward with the project. I want you all to know it was full-blown winter with snow banks three feet high. We removed the pumps from the trailer and set up shop in the basement. The air compressor we left in our trailer and flagged the hose on the sidewalk. We then pumped AirKrete® into all cavities.
The next is history. The time now was here to face all people with a smile on our faces or put our head down and shake it with discouragement. Who knows?
We set up a good sound system and gradually started turning the volume up with myself and others upstairs in the first floor restaurant. What to our surprise did we discover, that this process, along with the AirKrete® foam that Mr. Keene Christopher developed works so well that we could not even hear a sound through the floor or room area.

Next comes the test with the live Heavy Metal Bands and this was also very remarkable with no unacceptable sounds or vibration.
I was advised that a professional acoustic test was performed by the Green Glue Company and a verbal report was passed on to me that they have never seen results as good as these. I hope to someday have this report in my hands to share.

As a further note, on November 8th of this year, I had the opportunity to meet with the nightclub owner. I am pleased to report that he could not say enough about what a wonderful job our product is doing for him. He shared that the acoustics and heating are just unbelievable.

Special thanks go out to Mr. Keene Christopher for his development of AirKrete® and always being there to lend his knowledge, wisdom and support at all hours of the day. I also would like to acknowledge all my staff for all the hard work put into this project and for achieving such rewarding results.

  • Fire Walls made with AirKrete® Insulation Saves Betances Housing Complex in NYC

Shortly after AirKrete® Installer Joey Jacinto completed the 1.3 million dollar contract with the City Housing Authority of NYC. He received a call to stop in for an inspection at the apartment building. His first thought was that there was some kind of a problem. When he arrived the authorities were all smiling at him. To everyone’s amazement it seems that shortly after the AirKrete® was installed a fire broke out due to faulty wiring. The fire at Betances House Complex on, East 146th St. NY City was contained because of AirKrete®’s fireproofing qualities blocked the fire. ASTM E814/UL 1479. Joey received a big pat on the back and validation on a job well done.

Since 911 many existing buildings in NY City have been condemned and their CO’s (Certificate of Occupancy) stricken from the owners. To insure or reestablish a CO, apartments and building structures need to pass code and install proper fire walls. The pre 70’s brick building with wood joist construction, averaging six stories of 392 apartments was a great opportunity to installed AirKrete® in the interior walls and partition fire walls between apartments and pipe chases. AirKrete® is the only insulation on the market today that will retrofit any building without disruption to a tenant’s daily life and major construction costs to the owners. Joey Jacinto has 30 years in the insulation business. In the early 90’s The National Audubon Society purchased the Old Schermerhorn building in NY City and recognized AirKrete® insulation as one of the best ways to seal the envelope in their new head quarters. It was at this point Mr. Jacinto made a change. “I was happy to give up other insulations for the AirKrete®’s nontoxic world and for my own health”.ASTM E814/UL 1479.

This comes as no surprise to AirKrete®’s CEO/President R. Keene Christopher. He recalls a chimney fire below the roof at the home of Billy Day’s in Alaska. The fire took 1/3rd of the roof. AirKrete® insulation saved the rest of the house from the fire acting as a barrier to the flames.

AirKrete® is a product of air, water, and Magnesium Oxide (MgO). When the calcined MgO, which produces high temperature fireproof refractory cement, mixed with water, it becomes Oxychloride Cement. MgO is also a mineral used in our daily vitamin mineral supplements. Recent studies have proven that MgO absorbs Co2 (carbon dioxide). The MgO activates a counter action to the global warming effect by scrubbing Co2 from the atmosphere, making AirKrete® an even more environmentally friendly product.

    Founded Information on AirKrete® Insulation
In the early 80’s Chemist Donald Thomson, and CEO/President Keene Christopher, Weedsport NY challenged themselves to create a chemically safe and effective means for insulating building structures. After several years of research AirKrete® was developed. Although Donald Thompson has passed, his co creator Keene Christopher has kept AirKrete® Inc on the market. AirKrete® insulation is a light substance, which filled into cavities via an AirKrete® custom application gun and hose, set up; specifically designed for the product application. AirKrete® Inc. sets up and sells AirKrete® Start up Packages to New Licensed Manufacturers.

    Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire

Thank you AEC Daily for your comment on closed cell foam insulations. The new state-of-the-art closed cell foam insulations are polyurethane based insulations. Although the polyurethane insulation densities and R value are greater than open cell insulations so is the cost. Also polyurethane insulations do not have the ability to retrofit closed cavities.

The greater issue is the safety of polyurethane insulations, they give off toxic gassing and are extremely flammable. Please review the below news footage.

    Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire
The homeowners had only moved in about two weeks prior and were inside with workers when they noticed smoke and scrambled to escape. Workers were in the attic installing nonflammable insulation, but officials said that the fire started at the top of the home.

Air Krete was used in the National Audubon Society - Schermerhorn Building in NYC

Air Krete was used in the National Audubon Society - Schermerhorn Building in NYC

The National Audubon Society spent five years on extensive research and chose Air Krete for their international headquarters in NY City. The Biosphere II, Visitor Center and Al Gore’s Engineers (Doc Air) and architects researched insulation alternatives for more than two years and chose Air Krete. They all agreed that in order to create cost effective, efficient living and working environment one must seal the building’s envelope.

Air Krete was their choice for many more reasons. Air Krete is an all green insulation and that has qualities unlike any other on the market today. Air Krete is fire proof, mold and pest resistant, non allergenic. It also acts as a sound barrier, has a great R value, and its application process can be easily installed in any structure. The application process completely fills any cavities and does not expand or shrink over time.

Air Krete is produced from air, water, and Magnesium Oxide (MgO). The MgO is calcined, which produces high temperature fireproof refractory cement. When MgO is mixed with water it becomes Oxychloride Cement. MgO is also a mineral which is used in our daily vitamin mineral supplements. Recent studies have proven that MgO absorbs Co2 (carbon dioxide). The MgO activates a counter action to the global warming effect by scrubbing Co2 from the atmosphere, making Air Krete an even more environmentally friendly product.

In the early 80’s now Air Krete’s CEO/President Keene Christopher, Weedsport NY challenged Chemist Donald Thomson to create a safe green insulation. This request came about as a result of Mr. Christopher’s many years of experience with a German firm known as Isoscham (Urea Formaldehyde Foam process) manufactured by Schaum-Chemie of Frankenthal & Essen. It was during the late 70’s Urea foams were banned by the Consumer Product Safety Commission because of its formaldehyde release and inherent shrinkage.

After five years of research and development using several different types of cement, a new corporation was formed called Air Krete. Air Krete’s headquarters is located in the Central New York State where they set up and train new Air Krete Licensed Manufactures throughout the states. Today there are many areas in the US that are in need of installers. The calls and e-mails requesting Air Krete installation are pouring in every day. The jobs are there. Air Krete needs installers.
